RIP Oscar De la Renta

Someone told me to check out UNI GLO...which I'd never even heard of. I like it, but it is a bit overwhelming as you can see from the below pic.
But, I did spy this amazing Popeye Sweater for $29! Couldn't justify spending the $ but if it was Hello Kitty I would have paid twice the amount!
Next pair of shoes I purchase will be from Tom's. Every single time you make a purchase, they help a person in need. Every single time. Plus their slip-ons are double, extra, super cute:
Here's the thing: it's been a long, long while since I've had any disposable income or an actual budget with which to go shopping and trust me, I am in desperate need of new wardrobe additions. I am still putting good thoughts out into the universe to get suddenly hit with a deluge of cash. While I wait, however, I am becoming much more creative with what I've got.
When I returned from Brazil, with a suitcase of summer clothes, I decided to spend some time working temp gigs in NYC before going back home. And, as you rightly guessed, "temp jobs in NYC" means "corporate" and my ripped pair of old navy jean shorts and sleeveless tunic were not gonna cut it. But what also wasn't gonna cut it were the prices I would have had to pay to look presentable. I think I am challenged by my frugality because I really went to work (pun-intended) on my warddrobe. Okay, the shorts were out, but I did have a decent selection of summer dresses. I learned quickly that a pair of opaque tights and a botfriend blazer can go a long way turning those summer casual clothes into office-appropriate outfits. Add some fun faux-jewelry, a scarf borrwed from mom and a pair of simple, rubber-soled ballerina flats and you're good to go. Okay, I'll admit, no one is stopping me on the street asking for fashion advice, but I haven't been kicked out of an office yet! I will snap some pics to post so you can get an idea of what I've done. Who knows? Maybe you'll be horrified.

Four shops I am groovin on this month:
I am digging all the braids I am seeing recently, especially the messy ones, but I'm not sure I could figure out how to actually do one that looks good on my own hair. And...do I even have enough hair??
I haven't had a pair of Doc Martens since College but I am seeing them everywhere again. This heavy shoe envy is definitely going to lead me to make a purchase. How frickin' cute would these look with skinny jeans?
I go through jewelry phases. For a couple of years I was all about the faux craze...lots of big, fun stuff. I seem to be moving away from that and into more simple jewelry and yet another desire for something I can't afford which is to stick only to real jewelry. Also, I am digging bangles like this fabulous set from the Tory Burch:
I know I am waaaaay behind the craze but I have just recently become obsessed with the Alex and Ani bangles.
Not your typical fashion blog.
A few top fashion houses with clothes I feel a regular chick, like me, should be wearing. Alas, I will always be too low on the ducket flow for any of the below from L Wren Scott, Oscar de la Renta and Ralph Lauren:
47 year old fashion designer L'Wren Scott hung herself with a scarf in her NYC apartment this morning. Bet the scarf was gorgeous. Oh my, that's not funny.
And yet again, I am loving a brand that is way outside of my budget but these deigns from French Connection are truly gorgeous:
Has anyone ever tired out the Sofia Vergara KMart Collection? Some of the stuff looks pretty nice from a distance and prices are super low. Wondering if they look cheap in person and how quickly they fall apart?
And the Jessica Simpson Collection at Macy's seems extensive and more like everyday clothes. Prices are up there, though!
It turns out the Costume Designer for the TV Series American Horror Story is a woman by the name of Lou Eyrich whose career has been spent in similar capacity in other TV shows. No doubt she is truly enjoying herself and really putting her talent to use with the female witches in this series. The fashion worn by each of the main characters has gone a long way in showcasing not only some of the world's top labels but the character's personalities as well. Some of the designers that have graced the screen in this season alone consist of Halston, Diane Von Furstenberg, Ralph Lauren, Yves Saint Laurent, JAR Jewels (some of which are currently on display in the MET), Valentino, Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci and even some frocks from the more demurely priced Anthropologie. Not only do our eyes get to feast on these top fashion houses while watching the season unfold, but we are treated to couture-speak as one of the most popular characters, Myrtle Snow, often throws her fashion opinions into everyday conversation. Even when she was burned at the stake her last word was "Balenciaga"! If you don't want to invest any time into watching the show (although I strongly recommend you do), at least You Tube or google some of the fashion if you dig that kind of thing. You will not be disappointed.
Alice & Olivia - a definite favorite, definitely out of my budget. My new goal is to start finding and posting fantastic fashion vendors that real women can actually afford. Does that exist?
In love with this site and all the cool things they stock: www.sockdreams.com!
Two of my favorites: Anthropologie and Tracy Reese. Below is the reason why:
Can regular chicks pull off faux-leather pants or is it just another thing reserved for women who look like her? Because I really, really dig this look from H&M:
Have you ever seen American Horror Story on FX? Well, whether you are a fan of the show or not, you need to look into it if you dig fashion because the stylist(s) for the show, especially Coven: Season 3, is fabulous! I plan on returning to you with a more in depth expose on exactly how fabulous it is!
Discovered that I love Gary Graham. Unless he partners with KMart, it looks like he is another designer I will only admire from a far.
Diane von Furstenberg celebrates the 40 year anniversary of the iconic wrap dress!
